The Mac OS X ships with a Java runtime and development environment already installed - OR - if you have Windows and choose the BlueJ Combined Installer option which includes the JDK. You may skip the first step if you have a Mac because If you wish to work on Java on your own computer, there are 2 things you need: 1) the JDK (at least version 5.0) and 2) an IDE - Integrated Development Environment (BlueJ recommended for this course).
